IS MAZATLAN SAFE?

Since 1987, Mazatlan Express has traveled over 15000 college students to Mazatlan, Mexico for college spring break travel.

We feel Mazatlan is indeed safe for spring break.

Mazatlan Express takes the following precautions to insure safety for our students on spring break:

*We use only name brand, scheduled airlines like Continental (United), Frontier, Sun Country, Alaska Airlines, and Northwest/Delta.

*We have an experienced, onsite staff that meets you at the airport in Mazatlan, sets up your included airport transfers, personally does your hotel check ins and provides a welcome orientation briefing with onsite staff contact info, maps, and safe recommended sites and places to visit

*Our onsite staff are at every night time main event party on our VIP Party Package nightly schedule until the last student leaves.

*We use onsite identification wristbands for our students that makes them easily identifiable for hotel, club, and side trip operators. We have given our vendors business for 20 plus years. They care about the safety of our clients and provide extra eyes for safety.

*All of our hotels have 24 hour security. You cannot access property without the hotel provided security wristband. This provides a greater level of security.

*Our motorcoach/bus program always has a staff person on bus in communication with our office while traveling in Mexico.

*Mazatlan`s “Golden Zone“ tourist area where all the spring breakers are has had zero incidences of drug related violence against tourists.

*The 'Golden Zone' tourist area is heavily patrolled by local transit police, a special tourist police force, as well as Federal Officers patrolling for safety.

*Mazatlan is THE original spring break destination in Mexico. While less traveled than Cancun, Mazatlan's smaller size makes it more intimate and safer.

Precautions You Should Take When Considering Traveling Abroad for Spring Break:

1.) Consider a Group
There is safety in numbers. Traveling with 2 people is not as safe as 15. Most crime against tourists is simply mugging with no violence. If you have a group, you make you and your friends less of a target

2.) Use the buddy system.
This means you don't go anywhere alone. Ever. Use the same good practice on traveling in well lit areas as a group as you would in Chicago or Houston. Don't flash a lot of cash.

3.) Don't look for trouble.
That's right...seeking drugs or hookers will inevitably put you with an unsavory criminal element and get you in trouble. Go to the beach, have a margarita by your hotel pool and use our VIP Party Package and its staffed parties at night.

4.) Book the nicest hotel you can.
The nicer the hotel, the better the security and monitoring systems they will have in place for you safety.

5.) Know when to say when.
We are talking about thinking you're cool by drinking too much and acting like an idiot. The over indulgence of alcohol leads to lapses in good judgement and trouble. If you have people in your group that can't act like adults and drink responsibly please don't book a trip with us.

6.) Get your own drinks and beers.
That hot guy buying you drinks could be a creep ruffee ing the drinks. Order your drinks direct at bar and watch them make it from bottle.

7.) Elect to purchase our Optional Travelers Insurance Policy
For $39.00 per person, this policy provides yet another level of safety as it covers everything from emergency medical care onsite to lost baggage coverage. Its cheap insurance for a lot of piece of mind. If you don't want to spend the money ask your parents if they will.
